That is not how things work in my home! It is how humans tell themselves it happens to distract from the inequity and squalor they submit themselves to. Fae are far more likely to eat a human than to kidnap one!

...And even when they do take a human, it is to settle a debt. A life for a life. More often than not though, doing so is not worth the trouble. It's easier to kill the offender than to feed, clothe, and house them. There's probably a deeper reason if they are taken.

[Like, perhaps, a curse that can only be broken if the high lord falls in love with a human who hates all fae, and that human returns his love...]

Most human disappearances are either from natural causes, or fae that illegally cross the wall to hunt and eat them. There are some humans that run away to the wall on their own volition. These are mostly eaten as well, right away if they're lucky.
