Oh that's a classic move. Definitely fae magic. Consumption of food or drink giving one the ability to speak a language or understand a language is a common magic spell already. Wouldn't surprise me if the fae have it so we can all understand each other. At least with speech. Reading might be another matter. There're some books in the library that have what look like scribbles in 'em but I'd bet are in a different language.
