[ Ah-- his assumption is wrong. Charles had seen a lab and numbered identification, and a child with powers she can barely control, and had simply assumed the obvious. But after he says it, Eleven's thoughts flicker back to files and articles, gathered knowledge, and Charles gets it.

Multi-generational human experimentation, then. God.

He can see, too, the way her thoughts shy away from certain spots of static. That, too, is familiar. He's seen the same thing in other children, in Logan, spotty memories erased for various different reasons. Should Eleven ever wish it, Charles could help her recover those memories -- but he's not going to offer right now. Not when they've only just met.

You saved your friends? [ Charles might not know who these friends are, how she saved them, or what she saved them from, but he sounds warm nonetheless. Proud, despite the fact that they barely know each other. ] That, I find, is the best thing we can do with powers like ours. The most important thing.
