All right. A few months back- or, well, a few months to me back, time is different between here and home- my good friend Ren and I took some row boats out to the middle of a lake to help myself with some artistic inspiration. At the time I was working on a painting for an art exhibition and Ren, ever the good sport, accompanied me so that I could sketch while he rowed. We sat together for quite some time and spoke with a nearby couple.
[Yusuke chuckles a little.]
I was under the impression that since they were out there alone together in the middle of the lake that they must be romantic partners. After all, what purpose would a man and a woman have to be doing such a traditionally romantic act together? It was a bias I had as I was searching for subjects to portray human passion. But they revealed quickly that they were siblings.
[A bit embarrassing, but...]
As wrong as I was, Ren and I discussed how romantic love and familial love can in many ways look the same and bare the same weight depending on how you view it. It was an important learning moment for me and the time spent with Ren, alone and floating on the glimmering water, is a day I think back on fondly whenever I feel my motivation for art waning. Ren inspires me.
