[ he's not surprised that barton doesn't believe him. considering he's a loki, considering what most lokis are like, considering what loki himself had done to barton, to new york, to earth... well, loki wouldn't believe him, either. truthfully, he'd tried very hard not to change at first. somehow, though, mobius had wormed his way under loki's skin, and now here he is, willingly trailing along behind barton to make sure he doesn't fall or descend into panic again.

he snags a water glass off a tray in passing, trying to guide the human toward a table that's empty, on the edge of the party. he sets the glass down at one of the places, then settles at another, sitting back and crossing one long leg over the other. he doubts the other man will drink a glass that loki has touched--just in case--but perhaps it will remind him to drink something.

twining his fingers together in his lap, he lofts a brow questioningly. ]
Would you like the full story? Or if you prefer, I can contact my former case-worker. He's a friend now. [ he glances down at his thighs, brushing at a piece of lint on his pants. ] I'm not certain that anything I can do will help you right now, though. [ he's not even sure that leaving would do anything to help. would barton then be left wondering what sort of mischief loki could be getting up to?

it's.. exhausting, really, for both of them. loki has worked so hard to be better, to be worthy of mobius and sylvie's faith in him, to keep them and all the multiverse safe. being here, though, feels a little like being back at square one. he has to try to earn some sort of trust again, however small, and while it's the least of what he owes the people he hurt.. it doesn't make it any easier. and for barton? well, at the very least, he's certain the man had hoped he was done forever with loki. ]
