"I spend a lot of time in challenging terrain, too, so being able to navigate back roads comes in handy." Someone who legitimately uses the off-road capabilities for tough places, and not just the grocery store. He's a man of a sensible mind...and also unlikely to get his long legs into a smaller car with any comfort.
