[ The suspicion is fair play, and Verso can respect it. Not enough to immediately explain every hole in the story, but Maelle's urging whispers in the back of his mind as he looks between Gustave and the only supposed exit they're being offered right now. No doubt, it's even more difficult for the man to trust him when he's menacingly blocking the way with his weapons still out. It's true that they can be summoned again in a moment's notice, so with Gustave willing to see reason here, the blades will shimmer and dissipate after his hesitation is overcome.

He really shouldn't consider Gustave a threat, not after what he's dealt with in his life, but the psychological hit here is more risk than anything else.

After you, doesn't seem like a suggestion that would go over well, under the circumstances, so instead he'll nod and turn away, prepared to lead them out of this mess as best he can. Stepping lightly and keeping an ear out for any potential attacks—from ahead and from behind—Verso tries to keep his eyes sharp in the dark for hedges that try to shift and disorient them.

His voice is hushed. ]

Why didn't you run?

[ The half-glance over his shoulder is clouded. No, he isn't talking about the weeping woman.

He's positive that he knows what the answer is, but Verso wants to hear him say it. ]
