Test Drive Meme #3

TDM #3 - May/June 2025
🦋 Introduction

Welcome to the Pixie Led Test Drive Meme!

The prompts will always be game canon, provided both characters who participate in a thread are either already in the game, or get accepted in the next application round.

You do not need an invitation to join the Test Drive Meme, it's open for anyone!

Please indicate character name and canon in the subject line of your top-level. For current characters, you may also indicate your character's court.

For prospective players, Invites open on the 18th, Reserves on the 20th, and Applications on the 22nd. Thanks for checking us out and we hope you'll join us!

🦋 The Party

You wake up at a party.

You're not sure how, exactly, you got here. You may have just been walking in the woods or at a meeting for work or doing any other normal activity for you. But you know you weren't supposed to be at this party, you're fairly certain.

Anyone you ask about it will say the party is for you. You and the others also waking up and looking confused. Further questions will lead to the partygoers insisting you have something to eat. You're starving and others are eating the food without repercussion, so you figure there's no harm in a bite. You finish your portion.

It's another garden party near a large hedge maze in the middle of the night. With his penchant for games the Ruler of the Spring Court decided it would be nice to hold an actual game for all the Adopted present. None of that dreidel game a couple of parties ago. This time, he wants more spectacle with higher stakes. Forced to participate and host aspects of this gathering as well, the Ruler of the Dark Court wanted nothing to do with this, so he figured his participation in itself is for the party to happen at night, during his rule, when his mood is at its most pleasant.

Of course, there is no shortage of light sources such as candles and torches, much to the Earl's chagrin, as well as no shortage of food. This time, the fae decided to try their hand on some pasta. They heard it's a good delicacy from the mortal plane. Thing is, sauces look and smell bizarre. One's purple, while another's bright pink, and they taste fruity, as well as flowery, much like the cookies from the last gathering.

As the party winds down and everyone's eaten, a tall, stately woman stands up and speaks. You feel her voice more than hear it.

I am the Lawspeaker of the Fae, elected by Seelie and Unseelie alike, and you are all, now, subjects of Faerie. You cannot leave this realm once you have eaten our food, and even if you could, there is no saying how much time has passed back where you're from. Your loved ones are likely dead, your problems have likely played out. We require assistance in various matters, and each of you has been chosen for your talent and skill. You will be adopted by one of the Seelie or Unseelie Courts based on your strengths and personality. Your Court will decide what to do with you from there.

As suddenly as she stood, she sits back down.

🦋 Feeling on Hedge

So, what about this hedge maze that seems to have appeared out of nowhere and looming quite eerily beside this night's gathering? For one, peculiar noises can be heard whenever one's near its entrance. From the rustling of leaves to a woman crying, everything seems to be coming from inside.

Of course, the Adopted's participation is required and paramount. Anyone who refuses will be met with harsh penalties and consequences, whatever those may be. They also hint of a prize to anyone who comes out victorious on the other side. It's unclear what it is, though.

The fae know that while the Adopted have been very useful so far, they are also vulnerable and susceptible to fear, so to mitigate that, they have some colorful shots on a table marked LIQUID COURAGE near the entrance to the maze with such effects:

  • Gold: Essentially a strong drink that gives you profound energy for 24 hours.
  • Red: Downing this will make you feel warm like an aphrodisiac.
  • Blue: Basically functions like a normal tequila shot. Or three. Comes with a little bag of salt.

These shots are not compulsory for the Adopted to take, but they will be highly encouraged to do so before entering. Once inside, the rustling of leaves and the sounds of someone crying become louder and even more evident. There are also a few key things that seem to be very clear the longer an Adopted is within the maze's walls:

  • The maze is moving. How it's doing it, nobody knows. But it appears to be alive somehow, much like the castle grounds, so finding a clear pathway is almost impossible.
  • Whenever an Adopted turns right two consecutive times, they will see a more positive outcome from a terrible event in their lives. Lost someone? They're now here and alive. Gave up on a dream? You find yourself currently living it.
  • If an Adopted turns left two consecutive times, they will see someone, a family member or a friend who's still alive and had a deep impact on their lives, bleeding and dead on the ground.

It would be great if no one else can see an Adopted during their most vulnerable, but since the maze moves constantly, another Adopted or two might be able to see them trying to parse out what they're seeing, even if their fellow Adopted can't see it themselves.

🦋 Can't Unseelie It

CW: dismemberment, body horror, forced body transformations, mild gore, asphyxiation, drowning of children, death

The Spring King only wanted some good-natured fun within the maze, but unbeknownst to him, some Unseelie creatures and Unseelie magic have appeared inside, threatening the safety of the Adopted traversing every nook and cranny. Surely this will not have any lasting consequences between the relationship of the Seelie and Unseelie court rulers. Not at all.

A few of these Unseelie beings and Unseelie magic roaming around the hedge maze that the Adopted will have a chance to meet are as follows:

  • Manananggal: Capable of severing its torso from its legs, this vampiric creature usually preys on sleeping pregnant women and unborn babies. But not anymore. Due to magic put on it, this manananggal will strike anyone it comes across. Better pour salt on its severed lower torso once you find it, or else.
  • La Llorona: Remember that woman crying? Well, somewhere in the maze alongside the eerie sounds of water flowing, you'll come across a weeping woman cloaked in white with her back turned against you. Be careful not to approach her because once you do, she'll try to choke you to death, reminiscent of how she drowned her own children.
  • Jersey Devil: The first thing you'll hear once you turn is a high-pitched, blood-curdling scream then the sound of bat wings flapping. You better run as fast as you can to the other direction because this devil is out to attack anyone it sees on its path.
  • A fountain: How odd. Running from the jersey devil or the manananggal might have made you thirsty so perhaps there's no harm in drinking from it. But just coming in contact with its water will make any Adopted soon realize they have transformed into an Unseelie creature.

Fighting off these creatures might be best with a fellow Adopted. After all, there's power in numbers. Just be careful not to die within the hedge maze. There might be some dire consequences.

🦋 GEIS

You feel a vibration in your pocket sometime after the Lawspeaker addresses everyone. When you search for the source, you will pull out your Leaf, the device the Fae use to stay in touch with each other. Anyone who's used a smart phone will easily recognize how it works.

Greetings, Adopted. This is your Lawspeaker.

To be on theme with our festivities for tonight, we want to know a time in your life when you felt lost and wandering about. Perhaps the most compelling story will receive a reward from us.

Oh I like a bit of trouble now and again. It's fun, like I said. Fae are supposed to be mischievous though so that's probably the commonality.

"And we can just go in? Just like that?" She snaps her fingers to illustrate her point. "And - and I? Me? I can touch them? And read 'em? And no one will stop me? Truly?"

She looks suspicious. "What is the payment? If not money, what? Such things are not free, Sir, and I shan't be sent to prison for such a thing."

Eponine's mind is a jumble of flashes of the hellhole prison she had been locked up in in Paris, combined with imaginative glimpses of her reading under a table, a stack of books next to her waiting to be read. The images juxtapose one another: horror and pleasure, fear and longing.

"What do you read, Sir? I want fairytales and romances, I think."

"Not everything I do is looking for a soul to own. Most things," he admits. "Sometimes a conversation is just a conversation."

"And if I need help?" he presses casually.

"..." Claws bite into his palms, squeaks chirping his outrage as he's used like a napkin (and not in any of the fun ways).

His jaw hurts as he stiffly tightens up that smile, taking the excuse to step away and shake out his coat. "It's Valentino," he corrects, looking to the buffet with a sigh. "Any particular cut?" He's not going to swallow his pride only to get turned back around for bringing him the wrong selection.

Yes. There's quite a few of us, and some from alternate realities, too.

For what it means, you wouldn't be the first.

I see.

[ But that's all he'll comment about the choice of entertainment. ] Again, thanks for your time.... And the help. [ He pivots, pointing a shoulder at spike. ] I'll be heading out.

[ With his hot mug of blood, nothing to see here. ]

Gamora thinks back to her time as an emissary for Thanos. She mostly collected heads for him until whoever was left to rule caved to his demands. This sounds more honorable by comparison. She does appreciate there may be a way not to do it at all.

"Like with the food earlier. I didn't want to eat." Gamora comments. It'd been petty on her part to starve to spite Thanos. Little rebellions are all prisoners can get. "Do you think they'd have us do anything dishonorable?" She really will help Thanos burn this place down if that's the case. Better the evil she knows.
amongfriends: (you told me I'm golden)

[personal profile] amongfriends 2025-07-01 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Gamora offers a sympathetic frown. Despite twenty years of imprisonment, she is sympathetic to anyone stolen from their homes. It isn't an easy thing to live with. His question does visibly give her pause. The warrior is tempted to take the out given. Perhaps because he was kind enough to offer it, Daniel gets the truth.

She grimaces while offering it.]
Being held prisoner by a man hellbent on killing half of all life in the galaxy. He was torturing my sister to force me to help him.

[Gamora shakes her head and offers as kindly as she can:] As I said, there are worse fates. I am sorry you were taken, Daniel. It isn't right.
amongfriends: (I need a fight)

[personal profile] amongfriends 2025-07-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Gamora shoots a glare at Thanos without ever lowering her guard. This isn't a training session. She does not appreciate his feedback. "My mercy was to allow her a chance to stop this madness before it was too late to turn back!" She argues hotly as the woman returns. Gamora doesn't even look as she drives the balanced dagger he gifted her as a child into the head of her attacker.

It ultimately won't matter. The creature will spawn again. If Gamora knew the story behind the weeping woman, she would have killed it outright from the start.

Gamora presses forward without bothering to look back. The creature made her choice. She only defended herself in return.

"A pointless and dangerous endeavor. If it was so weak that you can afford to grant it leniency, it is not deserving of it. And if it was strong enough to pose a threat, your hesitation would have cost you your life."

He leaves it without saying that this isn't how he taught her.

"It's... it was Christmas Eve, for me."

The question is whether Hifumi has enough context to understand why that dropped Haru's mood so abruptly. (Still, Mona-chan being from March and Sophia's mere existence are proof enough that the fae are lying.)

[personal profile] sod_off 2025-07-01 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
"It'd depend on how you define dishonorable. You familiar with what fae are?" Spike canted his head to the side and studied her. Not in a threat-assessment way. "Pardon the bluntness, but what are you? Not sure if you're a demon, and if you are, I'm not familiar with your type."

Despite the 'politeness' he went ahead and was blunt anyways. Clearly one used to saying whatever he felt was necessary. A sort of underlying attitude to his voice that rang through it all.

I'd like to think I'm still Librarian—though I suppose that's dependent on whether or not that Lawspeaker woman was being truthful about the years passing back home. [ He's choosing to believe it's a lie. A Librarian being stolen out of a Library of the Watchman's Tree would be a scandal of divine proportions, one that would require almost immediate redress by the Hours of Calyptra. That years could have passed without any vengeance being taken upon his kidnappers is unthinkable. Surely these Fae are not more powerful than the Hours. ]

Yes. I'm not the only person with that title, mind you, but I'm one of a few. Our Libraries are distant enough from one another that it doesn't tend to cause confusion.

[ As they walk, it becomes apparent that there's something odd about the Librarian's gait; he walks with a limp, his right leg dragging somewhat with every step. ]

I admit, I'm quite curious about your own homeland—and the people in it. I hope you will not take offense if I tell you that I've never seen, ah... such a manner of sensory organs as you possess on your head.

[ Obviously, a wordier description is more polite. ]

[Takes note of that limp and changes to walking slightly behind Daniel's right side as inconspicuously as possible. No way is he bringing it up; he's been around more than enough older soldiers to know the faux pas it is to point something like that out. The man is a Scholar of enough renown that he can cast without a focus tool, so if it was something S'rei could assist on he'd have done it for himself already.

The elaborate way he gets around to his actual question is a little amusing; reminds him a bit of Alphinaud, practically allergic to asking anything outright for fear of coming off improper (unless, that is, he's well and truly incensed). To find a hyur that's never seen his species is unusual, but...he's in a different realm. Perhaps this one is a reflection that's never had people like him. He can recall with offended clarity the researchers in Elpis delighting in his "bestial traits" as evidence of his lesser existence.]

My kind are called miqo'te, [he quietly informs Daniel, instead of dwelling any further on all of that.] We're fairly common in most areas of the world where I'm from. You look like the race referred to as a 'hyur,' though I'm curious to see if you have another name for yourself.

[ At the woman's answer, the Librarian's gloomy expression changes to one of shock. ] Sun Above, [ he exhales. ] That is... truly awful.

[ Who would seek to eliminate half of all life? Some crazed Winter cultist? A servant of the Wolf Divided? Not even those answers, grim as they are, hold much water. ]

I can only imagine that such ambitions belong to a madman, [ he shudders. ] I am sorry, then, Miss Gamora, that you have been twice taken captive—once by the man of which you speak and now by these hooligans. I shall at least hope that the motives of our captors here are less dire than those of your previous jailer.

[Ren doesn't back down from her gaze, his chin tilting up to keep the stare. If anything, he's a stubborn little motherfucker, and she has hurt a person incredibly important to him-- in his name no less. He won't back down from that. He can't.]

Maybe I'm not interested in playing your game, then.

[It would be easy to act cocky and overconfident, here, but that would be blustering- and that isn't what he does. Instead, he just lets that little grin pull at the edge of his mouth, the look Sahar may have seen on many of his adventures back in Tokyo, where he declared something he was going to do and then, well, did it.

Surely, that can't happen to her. And Ren wouldn't make that promise. He just wants to make her think, for even a second, that he could.]

Maybe I'm looking to make my own rules. Ones that are fair for us. And especially for him.

[Akechi has had far, far too many unfair rules in his life. For once, Ren is going to fix that. He knows it.]

"Mmm," Val nods with a slow grin. With any luck that's truer than anyone knows. But Vox will get mad if he goes and spoils their plans. "I saw. My Angel Dust was there, I would have been gutted if anything happened to him."

"I've had the pleasure. She had a lot ideas to share, very...involved girl you've got." He gives a soft laugh, "I don't see that happening. I'm where I belong, Papi."

It's not at all what Valentino expected, but as soon as he sees it, it's hard to deny it's a beautiful representation of Lust. There's pieces that overlap with what Valentino's tried to build, the clubs and the neon lights, but the feeling is...different. Fifty plus years in Pride and this feels practically wholesome in contrast.

"I see why you keep us all in Pride, Papi."

Miqo'te, [ the Librarian repeats, with the satisfaction of an incorrigible polyglot learning a new word. And they even have a word for his own race as well! The Librarian’s excitement grows. ] We would simply call ourselves "human." I must say, the way you talk about your world—it sounds like it may hail from another History entirely! And not one I know of, either…

[ Could it be? A fabled sixth History? Or simply a highly divergent branch of one of the other five? The former seems impossible, but then, it has been a day full of impossibilities. ]

I hope you will not take offense at my curiosity—and do let me know if I overstep the bounds of propriety—but I would be fascinated to know more about your homeland. Could you tell me anything of the religions or customs there? Any dominant deities or spiritual groups?

[ The thing that crosses her expression for the briefest of seconds isn't fear - perish the thought - but as her jaw goes slightly slack, as her eyes narrow suspiciously, as she thinks "They couldn't; we took the ability to turn their Not-Leafs on," it's probably readily apparent on her face that there's the smallest hint of doubt for bringing this pack of wild, feral children here.

As soon as it appeared, though, that look vanishes and she starts to cackle. ]
No wonder you got yourself into all kinds of trouble if this is how you speak to your betters. I'll have to get Akechi to teach you some manners. [ She says with a wave of her hand, small flames trailing after her fingers in midair. ]
